Slithering Snake

Instrumentation: Mezzo Soprano and Piano

Duration: 4:20min

Description:

Written to my own libretto, this piece tells the story of a wondering snake who comes across a field mouse which it captures and digests. The singer is the snake, narrating  her every step. She sings in sprechgestemme (between speaking and singing) in a manner reflecting Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire. The piece is atonal, evoking a dark and chilling quality which lasts throughout the work.
